Software Team Lead

By 2030, Tover, creator of the Tovertafel, aims to create 10 million moments of happiness per day for people with cognitive challenges. We believe that joyful, intuitive, and reliable technology can help us get there, and that great software lies at the heart of that promise. To make that happen, we’re looking for a Software Team Lead who can lead our engineering team with technical excellence and people-first leadership. You’ll be the driving force behind our product development process, ensuring our software and hardware solutions deliver lasting impact, with quality and care for our end users built in from the start. If you’re someone who thrives on structure, clarity, and collaboration, and who wants to use their technical leadership to make the world a little better each day, this might be your next role.

About Tover

Our Tovertafel games – designed for people with dementia, intellectual disabilities, and children with special needs – are already being used in over 11,000 care institutions worldwide. We’re proud of what we’ve built, but we’re not done yet. There are millions more moments of joy waiting to be unlocked, and our engineering team plays a crucial role in bringing them to life.

Job Description

As Software Team Lead, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of 5 engineers responsible for building and maintaining the software and embedded systems that power the Tovertafel. You’ll help shape the technical vision, set the standard for engineering practices, and make sure we deliver quality, scalable, and user-friendly solutions, on time and with purpose.

In this role, you’ll lead the software, hardware and QA engineers to coordinate efforts across the stack. You’ll be hands-on when needed, but your core mission is to empower your team to do their best work, by setting clear priorities, fostering growth, and continuously improving how we build.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a team of both software, hardware engineers and QA, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Own and evolve our development processes (agile, CI/CD, testing, release management) to improve velocity and reliability
  • Guide the team in the planning, prioritizing, and delivering new features and improvements
  • Translate product needs into robust technical solutions, balancing long-term maintainability with short-term delivery
  • Contribute to architectural decisions for both our web platform and the software running on our Tovertafels, ensuring a scalable and future-proof codebase
  • Act as a mentor and guide for engineers, supporting their technical and personal development
  • Identify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve the way we work—both in code and in culture

What we ask:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior technical role
  • Proven experience managing or mentoring a team of engineers
  • Strong technical foundation in software engineering (embedded systems experience is a strong plus)
  • A proactive, structured mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience with agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and release planning
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with design, product, QA, and innovation/hardware teams
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Needs to already reside in the Netherlands (IND sponsoring is possible)
  • A genuine interest in social impact and improving quality of life through technology

What we offer:

  • A leading role in a mission-driven medtech company (32 or 36 hours, 40 hours negotiable)
  • 40% at home work policy
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • A closely knit team of passionate and talented people
  • Meaningful work with real societal impact
  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Travel reimbursement
  • Pension scheme and 25 vacation days (full-time)
  • A fun, informal team culture with regular outings and drinks
  • Short communication lines and a professional, fast-moving environment

We will start reviewing applications right away, but interviews will begin in early September.
